Pila for Crystal Ski Holidays
This Field Note documents a destination photography assignment in Pila, produced to support the launch of a new resort within the Crystal Ski programme. The imagery was commissioned as foundational destination content, created for use across the brand’s resort pages, editorial features, and digital platforms, and housed within TUI’s Digital Asset Management system for ongoing use.
The assignment was delivered end to end. Responsibilities included developing the shoot list, planning the schedule, photographing the resort on location, and overseeing image selection, post-production, and retouching to publication standard. The resulting image set formed the primary visual representation of Pila within the programme at launch.
Photographing Pila required a balance between scale and accessibility. Panoramic views across the Aosta Valley, with sightlines towards Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, and the Matterhorn, established the resort’s setting within the wider Alpine landscape. These images were paired with closer observations of the built environment, showing how contemporary resort infrastructure integrates with the surrounding terrain.
The approach on the slopes prioritised movement and flow rather than performance. Tree-lined runs, ski-in access, and transitions between accommodation and piste were photographed to reflect the resort’s ease of navigation and suitability for a broad range of skiers. The intention was to communicate clarity and approachability alongside visual impact.

Beyond skiing, additional images focused on atmosphere and rhythm. Quiet village paths, post-ski moments, and details of food and social spaces provided context beyond the slopes, situating Pila within an Italian alpine culture that balances activity with pause.
To support the technical demands of the assignment, professional equipment was sourced through Nikon Professional Services, allowing the use of current camera systems suited to both landscape and fast-moving environmental work.
The resulting imagery was designed to function as a flexible visual library — capable of supporting editorial storytelling, destination marketing, and potential future campaign use — while providing a consistent, long-term visual reference for the resort within the wider programme.
